The biggest discovery found James Marshall on January 24th, 1848. I reached my hand down and picked it up; it made my heart thump, for I was certain it was gold. The piece was about half the size and shape of a pea. Then I saw another. Says James Marshall. After making the greatest find in the history of the West, Marshall and the other workers went back to work. But they kept stumbling upon more gold. Still in disbelief, Marshall took samples back to Sutter's Fort. They found out that it was really gold.Sutter was building an agricultural freedom he didnt want the competition that gold seekers might bring. And Marshall had a sawmill to build gold hunters would just get in his way. So they tried to make it a secret. But it wasnt for long that everyone heard about the gold in California. At first people just thought that the gold was just another fantastic tale. But then people discovered that it was true and left west right away. A man could get 10 dollars a day back at home and 25 dollars in California for mining. But that wasnt enough to buy dinner. California was filling up with a very kind of business man and it was filling up fast. Camps sprouted up and evolved into ramshackle boomtowns to serve the growing population places with accurate names like Hangtown,Gouge Eye, Rough and Ready, and Whiskeytown. Now people could earn more money by ming. But not for long. Later then gold was running out no more gold fever. For miners their happiness didnt last for longMany gave up the dream and went home to the east. Others stayed on--just one more year they hoped. One more year and they'd strike it rich. And there were the occasional lucky strikes well into the 1850s just enough good news to encourage the masses to continue digging. Most failed every day, but they kept on--year after year. Dejected, disappointed, many would never return home to loved ones back east--they would die in California, broken by a dream that never came true.

settlement of the west brought opportunities for many americans. this brouoght conflict as settlers invaded indain homeland. the gold-rush fever sparked a rush of prospectoers to the west. riding along the chisholm trail ,cowboys herded cattle north to be shiped to meatpacking plains.the spread of railroads across the west brought wealth to railroads barons and opened the region to settlement.the tribes on the great palins fought to preserve thier way of life. to prevent conflist and open lands for settlement, the government moved tribes onto reservation.the homestead act brought moer farmers to the great plains including african americans who called themselves exodusters.

I agree with the person who wrote fisrt. There was alot of other things that had happen then just that.but i think i'm going to stick with Mr.James Marshall.Mr.Marsall made the greatest find .He found GOLD.Once e and other workers found GOLD they decide to go back to work. They found out that it was really GOLD.So he decided to build agriltural.Tring to keep it a serect so that he wouldn't have to compete . In a very short time the whole nation found out about the GOLD in C.A.Soon after that people were blowing up land and diging up durt to find more and more GOLD. Once the GOLD was gone everyone who went to C.A to find GOLD left and went back home .As we know now the GOLD never lasted to long.

This is Laura ans some conflicts that the Americans had while moving was that they had to survive with limited resources. Food was difficult to find wood and water were scarce on the plains. But the also had opportunites and those were that they found jobs laying rail lines, and railroad owners made profits shipping western goods to market. They wanted to reach the rich farmlands of the far west. But they had struggled to get across the Rocky Mountains some of them even stopped for good. In January of 1848 sutter's workers found gold near the mill. Sutter tried to keep the gold a secret but eventually word got out. This was when the gold rush had began. For three decades after the California gold rush, hordes of miners chased their dream of riches from Mexico to Alaska and east as far as the black hills of Dakota.

one of the conflicks that went on is the rail road act cuz the bill got so high for all of the stuff they were using.Another act wasit mad people settel quiqer by making land avalible to farm families. And that policies led to growing demands for some govermant control over the railroad companies.

As america moved to the westeren parts of the U.S conflicts and opportinities came an opportunity was if the moved to the west they could expand the railroad frome the east to the wild west. And another opportunity is that they could also have the posibility to find gold. that is if they were lucky. A conflict that emerged was that on their way to the west they wer running out of food. And when they tried to find food it was very difficult. sothat is some conflicts and opportunities that we had when we were moving to the west.

THe conflicts that americans had when they moved westward when they got there they would have to try to adapt into the place by extending the railroads from the east and the west too. Thye even ahd the opportunityto try to get rich by finding gold in the hidden place. but in january of 1848 Sutters found gold right next to the mill. The conflict with that was that he tried to keep it a secret but eventually it ot out.
